UFC
coming to a theater near you
By Phil Lanides
The
UFC has announced that it has reached an agreement with NCM Fathom
that will bring their live events to local movie theaters
nationwide. The first event to be shown will be UFC 111 on March
27th, and it will be shown in high-definition.
On the list of participating theaters, the San Jose-Bay Area is
well-represented. Local participating theaters include AMC Cupertino
16, Milpitas Great Mall 20, Mountain View Cinemas 16, AMC Eastridge
Mall 15, and San Jose Oakridge 20. For a full list, visit
http://www.ncm.com/FathomContent/PDF/EventTheatresReport_UFC.pdf.
Tickets are available to this special in-theater event at
http://www.FathomEvents.com/ and presenting theater box offices.
“This is an opportunity to provide our fans with another cool
way to watch UFC programming on the big-screen, live, in high-def
and in surround sound,” said UFC President Dana White. “UFC
111 has a stacked undercard and St-Pierre vs. Hardy and Mir vs.
Carwin are both title fights, so this is the perfect event to kick
off our new deal with NCM Fathom.”
“UFC 111: St- Pierre vs. Hardy” features reigning UFC welterweight
champion Georges “Rush” St-Pierre taking on British bomber Dan “The
Outlaw” Hardy, as well as former heavyweight champion Frank Mir
clashing with the massive Shane Carwin for the interim UFC
heavyweight title. In addition, theater-goers can watch the entire
UFC 111 live card, including local welterweight Jon Fitch in a
rematch with former title challenger Thiago Alves, lightweights Jim
Miller and Mark Bocek locking horns, and welterweights Ben Saunders
in a battle with Jake Ellenberger.
This is an exciting opportunity for local fight fans to gather with
fellow enthusiasts to watch UFC events in a theater atmosphere.
