StrikeForce veteran Nick "The Goat" Thompson to fight May 15th on PPV    By Phil Lanides

Longtime MMA veteran Nick “The Goat” Thompson (38-12-1), who has fought locally for StrikeForce, is set to face Brazilian Muay Thai expert Eduardo Pamplona (12-2) at “Worlds Collide: Mayorga vs. Thomas.” The event is set for May 15th at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Thompson trains at Minnesota Martial Arts Academy with the likes of UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk, UFC fighters Nik Lentz, Chris Tuchscherer and Jacob Volkmann, and UFC veterans Derrick Noble (who has also signed with Shine Fights) and Brock Larson. Prior to 2009, “The Goat” was riding a 22-2 streak as a welterweight, with a win over UFC welterweight contender Paul Daley, impressive TKO stoppages of Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and former Cage Rage contender Mark Weir, and submission victories over former UFC fighters Ansar Chalangov and Chris Wilson all a part of his extensive resume. The impressive veteran has also faced the likes of Bellator fighter Dan Hornbuckle, Strikeforce Middleweight Tim Kennedy, Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields, former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season Three runner-up Ed Herman, and UFC Middleweight contender Yushin Okami.

Facing Thompson will be one of the top welterweights in Brazil, Eduardo Pamplona. Already a veteran of organizations like Pancrase, Shooto, the IFL, and M-1 Challenge, Pamplona will now bring his aggressive striking and world-class ground game to Shine Fights. Having earned victories over MMA legends Jorge “Macaco” Patino, Jose “Pele” Landi-Jons, and fellow Shine signee Daniel Acacio, Pamplona made his U.S. debut in 2007 at “IFL: Atlanta” in an exciting three round war with former EliteXC champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler. Pamplona lost a hotly contested bout that night, but the 34-year-old has reeled off seven straight victories since, bringing his record to 12-2 overall.

This highly anticipated bout in the Shine welterweight division joins the previously announced main event between former boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga and MMA veteran Din Thomas on the May 15 card. Available on pay-per-view in North America, the event will start at 9 PM EST and will be available for $29.95. Tickets for the event will go on sale soon via Ticketmaster.
