MMA-KO: How do you get into mixed martial
arts?
HITBOY:I ran into Mike Chu Owner of Havuk
Sqwod, he took me in and began to train me. we would train
in parks, storage units, pretty much any open place we could
get our hands on. Ironically I ended up fighting Mike Chu in
my pro-debut.
MMA-KO: How did you grow up? What type of
childhood did you have?
HITBOY:I was surrounded with a loving family,
my mom always made sure we had a roof over our head and
clothes on our backs.
MMA-KO: Who was you're first opponent?
HITBOY:My first opponent was Mike Chu from
Havuk Sqwod, there was allot of smack talk going back and
forth between us through some mutual friends. I guess he was
upset that I left his team to form my own so he decided to
call me out and fight me infront of my hometown friends and
family. So what better way to settle it but in the cage!
MMA-KO:How did you start training?
HITBOY:I started Boxing at age 9 with the
Police Athletic League (P.A.L) out of San Jose. My
grandfather took me one day and I loved it ever since. I
started wrestling in Jr High and throughout high school.
Although my dream was to become a professional boxer I just
got hooked on Mixed Martial Arts. ( I trained for 1 full
year in MMA before I took my first fight)
MMA-KO:Who is the toughest fighter you faced
at this point in you're career?
HITBOY:I would have to say the "ISLAND BOY",
Palika Drummondo from the universal Grappling Academy, I
underestimated him from the day I heard I was going to fight
him, I was certain I would knock him out within the first 30
seconds. I did not train as hard of I should have. I put
myself in a very bad position to have to cut 12 pounds the
day of weigh-ins. I ended up paying the ultimate price and
ended up gassing out at the end of the first round and got
submitted.( I will never underestimate anyone ever again)
MMA-KO:Who do you train with?
HITBOY:I am currently training out of my
garage, it is fully equipped with everything I need, this
allows me the opportunity to be close to home with my
family. Plus if I am short on sparring partners for the day
my 4 yr old son is always willing to lace up the gloves.
MMA-KO: Who are you're heroes and who has
inspired you?
HITBOY: My Hero is my Mom she raised us by
herself and did a dam good job, My inspiration(s) would have
to be my wife and kids and my brother Gabriel, each one of
them keep me going everyday.
MMA-KO: What are you're long term and short
term goals?
HITBOY:I would like to have 10 fights under
my belt before challenging for a Title. I want the PFC, KOTC,
Gladiator Challenge and Cage Combat welterweight belts. Once
those are hanging in my garage I will go after the WEC
welterweight Title.
MMA-KO: When is you're next fight?
HITBOY:I am looking forward to an October
showdown, but have not been given an opponent as of yet, I
am looking forward to a rematch with the ISLAND BOY in
December at the Sacramento Memorial Building. (The outcome
will be different this time)
MMA-KO: What is you're favorite style to
bring into the cage? I love to HITBOY:STAND AND BANG! After
I saw Tommy Hearns and Marvin Haggler fight those 3 famous
rounds, I said to myself That's how I want people to
remember me! Put it all on the line until someone drops!
MMA-KO: Any pre-fight rituals you have before
one of you're fights?
HITBOY:I keep my my wife and kids close
leading up to each fight. I am better focused when I know
they are with me.
MMA-KO:Who gave you the name HIT BOY?
HITBOY:My Godfather "Mighty" when I was about
12 yrs old he just started calling me "Roy The Hit Boy" we
figured HIT MAN was already taken by Tommy Hearns so we
thought we would be more original.
MMA-KO:Anyone you would like to thank?
HITBOY:My Wife and Kids for putting up with
the long hours of training and their love & support. I would
like to thank my Brother Gabriel, he has been one of my
biggest motivators and supporters. Without him I don't know
where I would be right now. I would like to thank Booyaa
Fight Wear, Matt McPherson, Team Mixed Breed for welcoming
me into their home. Max Muscle, SherKhan Karate, Malachai
for their continued sponsorship. I would like to thank all
of the fans for their love of the sport, without the fans
the sport does not exist. I want to thank everyone that has
ever stepped into a ring or cage. Without you the sport does
not exist. I want to thank Gladiator Challenge and The
Palace Fighting Championship for allowing me the opportunity
to fight. Thank you for allowing ME to be ME! Thank you to
anyone that has ever been a part of any training camps I had
while preparing for a fight, without you I could not have
made it. Last but surely not least I want to thank MMA-KO
for giving me the opportunity to meet up with them. Much
Love!!
MMA-KO:Anything you would like to say in
closing?
HITBOY:I want to get rid of the misconception
that I am a cocky fighter. Those that know me know I am a
very humble person. Being involved in boxing for so long I
guess I learned how to really hype up a fight. I have allot
to learn in the sport and don't take anything/anyone for
granted. I fight because of the competition. I respect
everyone. When it comes time to fight I have always been
taught that I must have the mindset that I am the baddest
dude in the building.
I AM WHO I AM, I AM WHAT I AM, LET ME BE ME!
